ABOUT US

IDTA Examinations

Opened in 2013 by its Principal Sam Riley, The Academy is based in Arnold and has purpose built dance studios, and a comfortable waiting area. The dance studios have sprung floors, mirrors and ballet barres. The waiting area has viewing windows for parents to enjoy watching our classes.

Our aim is to offer expert tuition led by qualified industry professionals in Ballet, Tap, Acrobatics, Street, Commercial, Lyrical, Jazz, Drama and Musical Theatre.  All classes take place in a fun and safe environment where pupils can learn the techniques of the Performing Arts industry but also build confidence, encourage creativity, enhance social skills and make new friends.

As well as our weekly classes, we also offer many exciting opportunities including, examinations, competitions, festivals, workshops with industry professional, performances and annual showcases.

Here at The Academy we believe that a dance education encompasses far more than just learning technique and the steps.

We believe the discipline of dance training gives young people a better understanding of commitment through learning, experiencing the spirit of teamwork and discovering what they can accomplish through hard work.

Our goal is to educate the minds, bodies and souls of our students, teaching them the skills needed for a successful life, whether or not they stay involved in dance.

There really is something for everyone @ The Academy whether you’re a budding performer or you merely want to come for fun!

The Academy Dance Studio follows the International Dance Teachers’ Association Syllabi.

Performance Opportunities

Here at the Academy we believe that all students thrive from as many different performance opportunities as possible.

The Academy holds annual shows at prestigious Nottingham Theatres to enthusiastic audiences. All pupils have the opportunity to appear in these productions with an array of spectacular costumes and choreography, covering all aspects of dance.

Alongside the schools own shows, pupils participate in productions locally and around the country previous events include Chance2Dance Alton Towers, Arnold Carnival and School Fetes.

The Academy also has a very successful Competition & Festival team who compete all over the country .

Competitions & Festivals help to develop performance and confidence and help pupils who wish to take up a career in dance and theatre.

Entry is by invite from the Principal.
Pupils wishing to participate in Festivals must attend all core classes plus private lessons and festival rehearsal workshop days.
Pupils dedication, attendance, exam results and ability to work as a soloist are all taken into consideration we choosing who will compete on the team.

A lot of rehearsing and private lessons are involved, but all the hard work really pays of when you see all the students enjoying what they love doing, making new friends and showing such amazing confidence. I am always so proud of my pupils.
